WHY WE EXIST
The GT STEAM Academy is a program of GENERATION TEACH, an organization committed to ending educational inequity by reversing summer slide, diversifying the teacher pipeline, and empowering professional teachers as coaches and leaders.
Founded in 2014, the GT STEAM Academy has served over 750 students and their families.
In the 5-week GT STEAM Academy, students average 3 months of reading growth and 6 months of math growth on the Renaissance STAR assessments.
WHAT WE DO
With hands-on engineering classes and social-justice humanities courses, the GT STEAM Academy is designed to introduce students to topics they might not study during the school year, including engineering, fun fitness, math, social studies, reading, and speech & debate.
Every student picks two electives from a range of options including arts & crafts, chess, comic book creation, DIY Fashion, dance, music, and sports.
We serve free breakfast and lunch daily. Fun Fridays feature field trips, team competitions, and games.
WHO WE ARE
At the GT STEAM Academy, diverse, local undergraduate and high-school students teach small classes of 10 students or fewer. Professional teachers observe and coach the young teachers.
At the GT STEAM Academy, over 70% of the teaching fellows are people of color; 60% are Black and/or Latinx; nearly 50% are First Gen college students.

SAFE & LOVING CULTURE
The GT STEAM Academy is driven by the five core values of GENERATION TEACH: belonging, investment, initiative, growth, and excellence. The GT STEAM Academy is a place where all students know each other, their teachers, and the directors.
We welcome families to the program and host a Student & Family Orientation pre-summer, an Open House mid-summer, and an Ed Expo, featuring student-led family conferences, the final Thursday night of the program. 94% of GT STEAM Academy families recommend the program to other families.
